Union Public Schools Honored
The Union Public Schools Communications Department was awarded six, first-place awards for print, video and web projects during the annual Oklahoma School Public Relations Association (OKSPRA ) conference.
“It was a first for us in that Union won awards of excellence in every category of the state publications contest we entered,” says Gretchen Haas-Bethell, executive director of communications. “We were competing against school districts around the state and with Oklahoma’s technology centers.”
Union won Awards of Excellence for a variety of features. The Union school website, www.unionps.org, earned 48 out of a possible 50 points. Charting a Course for the Future, a campaign to explain future expansion in the district, was also recognized.
Union Football Coach’s Show, which OKSPRA says rivals that of regional cable programming such as the Fox Sports Network, was honored.
In addition, a video entitled Welcome to the Union Collegiate Academy, which was a video acceptance letter sent to students last summer, won an award.
The 2008-2009 District and Foundation Annual Report was recognized for its layout, photography and comprehensive data.
Lastly, The Communicator, the district newsletter, was cited as “A good example of how to highlight student achievement in several areas of student life.”
