Union YouthArts! Opens with Gala

The 30th anniversary of YouthArts!, one of the state’s longest-running public school arts festivals, opens with a special gala planned for 7 p.m. Monday, April 20 at the Union Multipurpose Activity Center, 6836 S. Mingo Road. The public is cordially invited to attend this free event.

The gala kicks off the two-week festival, which runs April 20 through May 2, featuring visual arts, dramatic performances, great music, and wonderful choirs.

“We want to celebrate 30 years of arts excellence,” says Ed Tackett, director of Fine Arts and founder of YouthArts! “YouthArts! provides a showcase platform for our students outside of the classroom.”

Long before Union was recognized for its football and athletic programs and other achievements, Tackett says Union was recognized statewide for its ability to highlight some of the best young artists in the state with YouthArts!

“The popularity of YouthArts! has had a ripple effect on all of the fine arts disciplines by creating awareness and interest in other programs from color guard to ceramics to special events such as the spring musical to recitals,” Tackett adds.
