DANIEL C. CAMERON for Union Boundary
Try to remember the Redskins performance in the first game of the Tournament of Champions. The guys came out sloppy and by half time, one had to wonder if either team was going to win. The team was not taking open looks, was passing lazily and was not driving into the paint. By Sunday that weekend, Union was showing marked signs of improvement. They were passing well and driving to the hoop and by doing so, beat a good Bishop McGuinness team.
Expand on that over the season and you see guys off the football field like Tracy Moore and those eye-popping 15-foot faders and Howard Scarborough (a.k.a. Howard Hustle), who simply was the hardest working guy in the state. And Terrell Williams, who by the end of the season had one amazing performance after another.
As a unit, this team improved more from game one to the post season than any squad this author has ever seen. There were even moments when the state finals did not seem to be out of the question.
You have to hand it to a great bunch of young men and one fantastic coach in Rudy Garcia. Congratulations on a very good season Union Redskins and to Levi Giese for earning 2nd team All-Tournament honors.
