Lady Eagles Basketball Touted
By JOHN BARHAM
GOING FOR GREEN: The Lady Eagles are poised for greatness. On the front row, from left are Leslie Ware, Paislei Finch, Jennifer Johnson and Semone Wilson. Second row, from left are Brooke Garner, Breonna Blake, Shante DeBoes and Antionette B. Carter.
Edison has a strong group of seniors retuning for the ‘09-’10 basketball season. The Lady Eagles are working hard to get to the State Tournament.
Coach Jonita Ford Criddle claims, “We want to win the State Championship. With the talent we have, and if we play at our potential, we have the opportunity to reach this goal. There are a lot of great teams in 5A so it will be wide open for all of the teams. We missed the regional finals by one game last year and we hope to go the finals this year.”
Assistant coach Jon Rabonsky is in his first year. He comments, “We have nine seniors returning, which gives us strong leadership. They are great talented athletes. Antionette Carter is our most talented athlete. Not many players can stop her from controlling the paint. Our guards returning will complement her.”
Merle Ashley, assistant coach, adds, “This year’s team is senior dominated. Most of them have played together since they were freshmen. Paisley Finch is the defending state champion in the 400 meters in track and Danielle Devers is the long jump gold medalist last spring. They are our returning guards along with Jen Johnson, a highly recruited player coming off of a knee injury. Leslie Ware, Carter, Jennifer Johnson, and Finch are all retuning starters. We have a lot of guards that are working for playing time.”
