Adam Gist, head coach of the boys/girls cross country teams for the Edison Eagles, states, “As a team we are much more improved as a group this year.”
Gist’s second year has his team workout with the Tulsa Running Club to increase their speed in addition to their regular training at the school. On alternate days assistant coach, Bob Bomer conducts a Yoga workout to increase their balance and strength.
One of the top five runners for the girls team, junior Alix Rowlands adds, “ I ran as a freshman and this year the team has worked much harder than in the past. We practice hard, running hills in the neighborhoods around Edison and in the Maple Ridge Addition.” Her personal record thus far in the two-mile run is 14:01.
The Eagles placed high in the Hurricane Festival in September. Nicholas Criser, a top runner, won his division with the time of 11:13 in the three-mile race. Quinn Fields and Hunter Briggs were in the mix competing well.
Seniors Amber Vanderburg and Madeline Stewart placed high in their division. Haley Higgs, a junior, is the top girls runner with the time of 13:48 in the two mile run. Alex Smith, a senior, has a personal best of 18:10 in the boys division.
