Annual Owasso Economic Summit Impresses
LOOKING AHEAD: The Second Annual Owasso Economic Summit was held recently which provided an insight into the future economic status of the area. Ken Grant, partner and wealth consultant for Waterstone Private Wealth Management was a member of the prestigious panel.
The City of Owasso recently hosted the 2010 Owasso Economic Summit at the Bailey Education Foundation at the Bailey Medical Center in Owasso. This is the second year for the event and it was welcomed with appreciation by area residents and business leaders.
Chelsea Harkins believes that the event is very important for the community for a number of reasons. “Over the past year, the U.S. and world economies have been facing what many believe are the biggest challenges since the Great Depression. As a result, this summit’s relevance has become even more apparent to our region’s citizens, businesses communities and economic development.”
“Owasso’s future is bright, but there are still some obstacles to overcome,” says Harkins. “We want to give our businesses the tools they need to make it through the recession and continue to grow and be profitable.”
“On behalf of the City of Owasso, we are pleased to provide this opportunity to explore Owasso’s economic future and vision for business.” Harkins continued to explain that the discussions during the event would hopefully leave a lasting impact on those in attendance.
Three panels were featured during the event covering the topics of Business Retention and Expansion, Health Care and Marketing. Featured speakers from local businesses, marketing companies and healthcare fields shared their advice and experiences.
Dr. Russell Evans, director and research economist at the Center for Applied Economic Research at Oklahoma State University’s Spears School of Business presented this year’s economic forecast as the keynote speaker of the event. He also discussed last year’s forecast and how it compares to how Owasso actually performed.
