Devin W. Buxton of Owasso, Okla. has been selected to receive an Oral Roberts University Whole Person Scholarship.
These scholarships reward new students-freshmen and transfers-who already exhibit four of the five characteristics embedded in the ORU mission statement: spiritually alive, intellectually alert, physically disciplined, and socially adept. The fifth, professionally competent, is to be acquired during a student’s ORU tenure.
Funding for the scholarships is being provided by a number of donors including the Green family, ORU benefactors.
To be considered for the Whole Person Scholarship, students had to be nominated by a school, church, or community leader or a member of the ORU faculty, staff, or alumni. Selected nominees were invited to campus for Scholarship Day Competitions in January and February and recipients were selected by the Scholarship Review Committee. Only 31 students were selected for the full-tuition scholarship from an international pool of more than 500 applicants.
Whole Person scholars also had to demonstrate a Christian worldview, a lifestyle of service, academic achievement, leadership ability, vision to make a life-changing impact on others, and a healthy lifestyle.
