Dunham on Team USA

Justin Dunham is an all-American hero from one of the country’s favorite towns, Jenks, Okla.

Dunham represented Jenks, Tulsa and the Unites States as a member of Team USA at the Taekwondo British Championships. The tournament was held in Kidderminster England.

Jog-A-Thon Benefits Jenks Third Grader

RAISING HOPE: Recently, sixth grade student members of the East Intermediate’s Student Service Organization (EISSO) hosted a Jog-A-Thon benefitting the family of Jenks Southeast third-grader, Truman Hedrick, who is battling cancer. Attendance was fabulous and the students met and exceeded their goal, raising $12,686.83 after expenses were paid, to give to the family to assist with the costs the Hedrick’s are incurring.

JHS Showchoir Wins at Nationals

Jenks High School Trojanaires traveled to Branson, Missouri recently to compete in the FAME Nationals Showchoir Competi-tion. This 44-member team is comprised of juniors and seniors who have worked hard all year by arriving to practice at 6:45 a.m. each school day. The Trojanaires competed with schools from Missouri, Ohio, and Wisconsin and were victorious in winning the Grand Champion Cup, Best Vocals and Best Show Design. Jenks senior, Kara Erwin, came away with the award for Best Female Soloist, while senior Brian Nhira was awarded Best Stage Presence.

Liz Wright Supports the Community

Three CareerTech educators from Oklahoma took top honors April 8-10 at the National Association for Career and Technical Education Regional IV Convention in San Antonio.

Jenks Teacher Experiences Progress

As graduation nears, seniors have been looking back on their experience at Jenks High School while they finalizing plans to move forward into college and professions. From their first day of class to their last, the students have had the opportunity to watch the school grow and change.

Jenks Board Set for Another Year

Members of the Jenks Board of Education bring the district together by ensuring communication, analyzing decisions and providing responsible leadership. This year brings the promise of continued support to the school district through the dedication of the board members. With the February reelection of Chuck Forbes, the board is set for another year.

Trojan Swimmers Grab 26th Title

The Jenks Swim Teams won the 2009-2010 state championship. In doing so, the boys won their fourth straight state championship while the girls won their third straight, making Jenks Swimming the most successful high school program in any sport for 6A over the last two decades.

College-Bound Trojans Sign

As the Jenks District Gazette goes to press, the following athletes have not confirmed where they will attend college.

John Timmons will be signing to play soccer. Stephen Brown, Tyler Davidson, Eric Hanson, Cory Jones and Matthias Wicks all plan to play football at the next level.

Scholars Candidates Named

Four seniors at Jenks High School have been named candidates for the 2010 Presidential Scholars Program. Sheema Golbaba, Samuel Morton, Kevin Thomas and Kyle Thompson are among the thousands of students across the nation to receive one of the highest honors bestowed upon graduating high school seniors.
