Tulsa Women Golfers Host Inaugural Dale McNamara Invitational
Tulsa, Oklahoma –– The Tulsa women golfers, fresh off of a tournament victory at the ORU Shootout, will host their own event on Monday-Wednesday, October 11-13, at The Patriot Golf Club in Owasso, Oklahoma.
The inaugural Dale McNamara Invitational will feature 16 teams and be played on the new 6,450-yard, par-72 Patriot Golf Club course.
The tournament is named after legendry Tulsa coach Dale McNamara, who began the Golden Hurricane women’s golf program in 1974, and built the program into a national powerhouse, winning four national championships in her 26 years at the school. In addition to the four titles, McNamara’s teams finished as the national runners-up five times.
The field includes: UALR, Kansas State, Kennesaw State, Long Beach State, Middle Tennessee State, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Oral Roberts, SMU, Texas, Texas A&M-CC, UNLV, Wichita State and host Tulsa.
“It’s a great honor to be able to host an event named after Coach Dale McNamara. The girls are very, very excited, along with the community being very excited. We’ve got a great field for the event to see the new golf course,” said Tulsa Head Coach Randy Keck. “We’re excited to showcase the new golf course, the Folds of Honor Foundation with Dan Rooney’s group, and our practice facility. We have a very strong field for the first year, and hopefully the field will grow over the next few years and become a Top-25 field every year.”
The Patriot was designed by preeminent golf course designer Robert Trent Jones Jr.. In a career spanning four decades, Jones Jr. has designed more than 245 golf courses in over 40 countries on six continents – with a stunning 33 courses among Golf Digest’s Best Courses in 18 nations. This includes the #1 course in 10 nations, and 28 courses in the top 10.
Over a two-year period, The Patriot was born of the earth. The diversity of the terrain is unique, awe-inspiring – indeed spiritual. Views that stretch 30-miles, virgin forests, jagged limestone walls that climb to heights of 150-feet. It traverses through four distinct and sometimes hostile topographies: lowland marsh, heavy woodlands, high prairie, and dramatic limestone canyons. Jones listened intently to the land, like a father listens to his young child. He patiently and gently uncovered a golf experience like no other.
Tournament play will begin each day at 8:00 a.m. and teams will tee-off of the 1st and 10th tees.
