Senor Tequila Restaurant Opens at Plaza del Sol

EL RESTAURANTE DEL SONRISAS: Together at a VIP preview are Elisha and Carlos Atilano, center, and their children. The new Senor Tequila location is at the Plaza del Sol shopping center, 101st and Mingo.

Senor Tequila, founded by Carlos and Elisha Atilano, has opened a location in the Plaza del Sol center at 101st Street and Mingo Road in South Tulsa. The Atilanos opened its first Tulsa location in 1999 at 51st Street and Harvard Avenue. They’ve since expanded to two other Tulsa locations and one in Edmond, Okla.

Plaza del Sol is a project of Tulsan Doug Collins, who years ago noticed an open field at the northeast quadrant of 101st Street and Mingo Road in far south Tulsa. He thought the property would be excellent for an upscale shopping center, a type facility that would be acceptable to the standards of the residents living in the area.
After meetings with his partners at Blue Heron Development LLC, and bank funding from Arvest Bank, Collins and his team closed on the property in 2007.

He explains his idea was to build something different for the area, away from the standard construction designs that had become so common to strip shopping centers throughout the nation.

What has evolved is the Plaza Del Sol, a new 46,500 square foot development of quality neighborhood shopping in an upscale setting.

This attractive, high-traffic location also provides quick and easy access to the Creek Nation Turnpike and Highway 169. Collins adds that 101st Street from County Line Road in Broken Arrow to Memorial Drive has been designated to become a primary arterial, which will bring additional traffic to the area.

Collins is proud of the center’s California Mission style architecture set among trees, flowers, music and fountains, which provides a customer-friendly shopping and dining atmosphere. He adds that available space at Plaza Del Sol ranges from 1,500 to 12,000 square feet.

The first Plaza Del Sol tenant, which opened in November, is Three Palms Wine and Spirits, owned by long-time Tulsans Tom Williams and Mark Fairchild. Senor Tequila is joined by Venetian Nails and Spa. An Italian Restaurant is also planned to open in the near future.
