Cowgirls Go Undefeated in Mizuno Classic



STILLWATER, Okla. — The No. 20 Oklahoma State softball team defeated Rutgers 2-0 on Sunday afternoon to finish 5-0 in the Mizuno Classic and improve to 20-6 on the season.

Pitchers Kat Espinosa and Anna Whiddon combined for the shutout and Espinosa picked up her sixth win of the season. She pitched 5 and 1/3 innings giving up six hits, walking one and striking out four. Whiddon threw 1 and 2/3 innings of relief and struck out one and didn’t give up a hit.

The Cowgirls got on the board in the first inning when Katelyn Bright walked and scored from first on a double by Alysia Hamilton. The other OSU run came when Mariah Gearhart led off the third inning with an infield single. She stole second and scored on a hit by Julie Ward.

Oklahoma State will play Northern Iowa on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings in Stillwater and both games are slated for 7 p.m.
