KUDOS OF THE MONTH: U.S Postal Service

WINTER WONDERLAND: This U.S. postal worker delivers mail to the Minshall Park neighborhood in Tulsa during the December snowstorm.

“Neither snow, nor rain, nor heat, nor gloom of night, stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.”

Those words, the motto of the U.S. Postal Service, ring true, as the mail was delivered to customers throughout the December and January snowfalls in greater Tulsa to keep commerce alive while many schools and businesses were closed. A self-supporting government enterprise, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation, 150 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars. With 36,000 retail locations and the most frequently visited Web site in the federal government, the Postal Service relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses. Named the Most Trusted Government Agency five consecutive years and the sixth Most Trusted Business in the nation by the Ponemon Institute, the Postal Service has annual revenue of more than $68 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail. If it were a private sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 26th in the 2008 Fortune 500.

This April, more than 4,000 mailing industry professionals will attend the National Postal Forum (NPF), the industry’s premier event and tradeshow, in Nashville, Tenn. and gain cutting-edge strategies and techniques for helping their organizations thrive in today’s marketplace. See www.npf.org for more information.
