The Yonder Mountain String Band Amazed Tulsa

Photos by Daniel C. Cameron for GTR News

Yonder Mountain String Band visited the legendary Cain’s Ballroom in Tulsa, Okla. last night.

YMSB is based out of Nederland, Colo. The band is a classic bluegrass setup with Jeff Austin on mandolin, Ben Kaufmann on upright bass, Dave Johnston on banjo and Adam Aijala on guitar.

They are known for their not so-classic style. The band embraces bluegrass, but pushes the genre’s style with hues of rock and jazz driven by improvisation.

YMSB seemingly tours perpetually, allowing Tulsa a treat of two years in a row at the Cain’s Ballroom.

This unique band deserves a look next time they are through Tulsa, if you like high-energy, crisp explorative bluegrass.

Below is a photo blog from the YMSB show at Cain’s last spring; May 7, 2009.
