AMES, Iowa - Four Golden Eagles placed to highlight play for the Oral Roberts University track and field team over the weekend at the Iowa State Classic.
Freshman Jack Whitt (Norman, Okla.) won his fourth pole vault event of the season among a talented field with a NCAA provisional mark of 5.37 meters. Fellow newcomer Dustin Gehrke (Jay, Okla.) also posted a NCAA provisional mark by soaring to a height of 5.22 meters to place third.
Marvin Bonde (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe) ran to a second-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.34, while Jeffery Gibson (Freeport, Bahamas) posted a third-place showing in the 400-meter dash by clocking a time of 47.39.
Jonah Lagat (Kapsabet, Kenya) recorded a sixth-place finish in the 5000-meter run (14:35.75), while Fredrick Brown also placed sixth in the triple jump (14.62 meters).
Senior Katie Stoever (Tulsa, Okla.) highlighted action on the women's side, placing seventh with a mark of 3.95 meters in the pole vault.
Both 4x400-relay teams recorded strong third-place finishes, as the men's team of Jeramy Roberts (Houston, Texas), Bonde, Joseph Chebaibai (Lessos, Kenya) and Gibson posted a time of 3:12.28, while the women's squad of Whitney Mills (Tulsa, Okla.), Marisa Thomas (Jenks, Okla.),TK Whitfield and Cornesha Wilkerson (Tulsa, Okla.) raced to a time of 3:43.58.
