The seventh-ranked Tulsa men’s soccer team has claimed its third-straight Conference USA Championship and earned the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament with a 3-0 win over Marshall at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. The Golden Hurricane, which also claimed the C-USA regular season title with a 6-1-1 mark, moved to 13-4-2 on the season.

“Obviously we are excited to win the conference championship,” Head Coach Tom McIntosh boasts. “We set that as a team goal earlier this year and we accomplished it. We knew Marshall could score some goals, but we talked about playing one possession at a time and I think we did that today. We were confident, but we weren’t over-confident.”

Four Hurricane players made the C-USA All-Tournament Team; Austin Neil, Ashley McInnes, Chris Taylor and Andy Aguilar.

Tulsa will host the second round of the NCAA tournament as the Hurricane strives for a national championship.

Accolades continue to roll in as Tulsa senior Kilian Poeschk and junior Chris Taylor were named to the 2009 Conference USA All-Academic Team. The all-academic team consists of student-athletes who have earned a 3.2 cumulative grade point average or better and are a starter or key reserve on their team.

Poeschk was also named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Third -Team.

McInnes and Neil were named to the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Season.
