KUDOS OF THE MONTH: TU Tennis Star Arnau Brugues

University of Tulsa tennis star Arnau Brugues was ranked No. 1 in the country five times and spent a total of 11 weeks in the top spot this season. The Barcelona, Spain, native finished the season with a 44-4 record, including 29 wins against nationally ranked opponents. He advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Men’s Singles Championships recently for the second time in his career. Brugues was ranked No. 2 in the final national men’s singles poll released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. It is the highest final ranking in Brugues’ career and of any player in Tulsa history. Brugues completed the 2005 and 2007 seasons ranked No. 7 in the nation.
Brugues finishes his career as a four-time All-American, four-time Conference USA Player of the Year, the 2009 ITA National Senior Player of the Year, and a three-time C-USA All-Academic team honoree. He also leaves Tulsa as the school’s all-time career singles wins leader with 116 career victories, and all-time single-season singles wins leader with 44 set this season. Brugues has a bright future in tennis and contributed even more positive recognition to the TU tennis program, one of the best in the nation under the leadership of Coach Vince Westbrook.
