Talons Ready for Magnificent BOK Center

NEW TALONS TURF: New artificial turf has been installed in the BOK Center for the Tulsa Talons. We look forward to playing our af2 indoor football opponents in the arena and on the turf next season beginning in the spring.

It was a great pleasure on Oct. 13 to attend the Oklahoma City-Houston Rockets exhibition game at the new BOK Center. The facility is very impressive and comfortable, and the 10,000 fans who came were entertained by not only the game and the skits during time outs and half time, but also by the BOK Center itself.

The building is open and airy, the seats are comfortable with plenty of legroom, and overall the facility is just an excellent venue for the people of greater Tulsa and throughout the region to attend the multitude of events that will be hosted there over the years.

It is an honor for the Tulsa Talons to begin play in the 18,000-seat, $178 million BOK Center this spring. The games will be exciting with the new artificial turf that has been installed as well as the $5 million scoreboard system and the video monitoring system that will show on-field action throughout the concourses so that fans will not have to miss a minute of action. In addition to the new turf, we will have new goals and pads, new dressing rooms complete with lockers, hydrotherapy equipment and a players’ lounge.

We’ll keep you updated on the Talons as the season draws nearer.

Impressive Chapman
Talking about an impressive facility, the University of Tulsa has really done everything right with the renovation of the football stadium, which is now Chapman Stadium. TU has stepped up to the plate with this big-time facility. The team is among the nation’s best with great players and an exceptional coaching staff. Fans need to support this hometown program.

Bill Connors Sports Dinner
W.K. Warren Jr. will be honored as Tulsa’s 2008 Sportsman of the Year on Nov. 3 during the Bill Connors Sports Dinner. The event will be held in the Grand Lobby of the BOK Center. A cocktail reception begins at 6:30 with dinner and program to follow at 7 p.m.

The event is in memory of sports journalist Bill Connors. The Tulsa Sports Commission founded the Bill Connors Sports Dinner to honor outstanding Tulsans and their contributions to the sports world and Tulsa community.

Museum of Military History
Col. R.W. Powell, curator of the Museum of Military History in Tulsa, will host a Grand Opening Day and Open House on Veterans Day Nov. 11, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the 6953 S. 66th E. Ave. location, which is near the intersection of 71st Street and Sheridan Road. Col. Powell is a former U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II.

He has collected many items from the Spanish-American War, the Civil War and both WW I and II. I was proud to donate a framed color print of the U.S.S. Samuel Gomper, a Destroyer Tender based on the West Coast of the U.S. Col Powell had done an excellent job with the museum. It will be a great place to visit this Veteran’s Day. It’s hard to believe that basketball season is here. Congratulations to Tulsa’s Jerome Jordan for being named first team preseason in C-USA. Best of luck to both Doug Wojcik of Tulsa and Scott Sutton of ORU this season.
