Broken Arrow Hospital Development Approved

The Broken Arrow City Council officially voted in January to approve an amended planned unit development for a project that includes the St. John Broken Arrow hospital and surrounding commercial development, located at the northwest corner of Elm (161st Street) and Albany (61st Street). This approval set the stage for a groundbreaking ceremony held Feb. 15.

The planned unit development approved by the City Council includes a five-story, 84-bed, general acute care facility, which will be built and owned by Broken Arrow Medical Facility, LLC and managed by St. John Health System. St. John Broken Arrow will offer a wide range of healthcare services including obstetrics and gynecology, emergency care, general surgery and all-digital diagnostic imaging services. A medical office building will also be constructed and connected to the hospital.

Plans for the commercial area include retail establishments, banks and multiple full-service restaurants. Additionally, several hotel chains are in negotiations for two available hotel sites within the development. Leasing of the commercial tracts surrounding the medical complex is exclusively represented by Walman Commercial Real Estate Services, LLC.

“The City Council’s approval of this project is a positive milestone in the development of St. John Broken Arrow and its surrounding commercial development,” says Mike Prescott, principal of Broken Arrow Medical Facility, LLC. “We look forward to the upcoming groundbreaking and construction phase of this project and the opportunity to bring a new, modern hospital and commercial district to Broken Arrow, its residents and neighbors.”

Hospital construction is expected to begin in early 2008, with completion planned for fall 2009.

Broken Arrow Medical Facility, LLC is an Oklahoma-based firm created to bring quality healthcare to the residents of Broken Arrow. Broken Arrow Medical Facility’s principals are Michael R. Prescott and Michael B. Garrett of Edmond, Okla. Prescott and Garrett previously led efforts to develop the St. John Owasso hospital, which opened in 2006.

St. John Health System is a not-for-profit Catholic healthcare system built upon a founding mission established by the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother nearly 82 years ago. St John Health System operates hospitals in Tulsa, Owasso, Sapulpa and Bartlesville. Other subsidiaries of St John Health System include OMNI Medical Group primary care physicians, St. John Urgent Care Centers, St. John Villas Senior Living Centers and medical complexes in south Tulsa and Claremore.
