EXCITED WINNER: Northeastern State University student Ashley Gharibvand, of Broken Arrow, was crowned Miss NSU 2008 at the 45th Annual Miss NSU Pageant held at the end of January. She was also the winner of the swimsuit competition.
Ashley’s platform for the competition was combating childhood obesity. She graduated from Broken Arrow High School in 2005 and is attending NSU as a cellular biology major and plans to become an optometrist with her own clinic. Ashley, daughter of Jahan and Cindy Gharibvand, is a sophomore at NSU.
The first Miss Northeastern State College was crowned in 1960. Nancy Wheat won by a vote of the student body and held the title for one year. In 1961, the first competition was held for the title. Carol Willoughby won the contest, which has been a Northeastern tradition ever since.
