Broken Arrow Student Wins Money

SCHOLARSHIP DREAMS: Kelsie Berg, middle, accepts a check for $100,000 as a college scholarship. Berg is from Broken Arrow and attends the University of Oklahoma. Berg completed 17 football throws in 30 seconds to win the grand prize. Her opponent scored 11 throws.

On Jan. 7 at the BCS National Championship game, Broken Arrow native Kelsie Berg completed the most football throws to win a $100,000 college scholarship from Dr. Pepper. Berg is a student at the University of Oklahoma. To compete for the scholarship at the BCS Championship, Berg had to first submit a video explaining why she deserved the tuition money and how she would use her education to make an impact on the world.

From there, Berg received votes from Dr. Pepper fans across the country to send her to South Florida with four other finalists to compete for the grand prize. Following a preliminary throw, Berg competed against fellow grand prize finalist, Sango Demunga from Dallas, Texas, who won $23,000 in tuition money.

Berg completed 17 football throws in 30 seconds, her opponent scored 11 throws.
